BuzzFeed.and Yahoo Japan Corporation (hereafter referred to as "Yahoo! JAPAN") announced that they have founded a new joint venture called "BuzzFeed Japan Corporation" (hereafter referred to as "BuzzFeed Japan") and will be launching the new news media site this winter.
The increased popularity of smartphones and social media has created a greater diversity of contact points between users and content such as news. BuzzFeed Japan, BuzzFeed's first joint venture with a local company, will combine BuzzFeed's highly social media-friendly content creation technologies with the traffic and accrued knowledge of "Yahoo! News" in the new news media site, closely tailored to the needs of Japanese users.
The new news media will provide content which can be widely shared over social media, with a focus on original news reporting, internet culture and lifestyle. As a "Yahoo! News" content partner, the news media will also supply content to "Yahoo! News" in Japan.
In the advertising area, Yahoo! JAPAN will have exclusive sales rights to advertising provided by BuzzFeed Japan. Yahoo! JAPAN provides diverse digital marketing solutions in Japan, and has an extensive network of advertisers and advertising agencies. These strengths will be leveraged to provide advertising using media content.
