Training for New Staff (Newly Graduates)
Right attitude as a member of society, basic business manners, necessary frame of thinking as an employee of Yahoo! JAPAN will be taught. Programs to enhance specialized skills are prepared for employees in engineer and designer courses.
In the assigned departments, senior staff will train the new staff on the job. New staff will learn as they experience their respective jobs in their assigned posts.
Trainings for All Employees
|Value Evaluation Training||Understanding of "Yahoo! Values!" will be enhanced. Training will be conducted in order to implement value evaluations in a convincing manner.|
|Followership Training||Concept of followership and considerations for its exertion will be acquired so that they can be exercised in daily jobs.
This is a participatory training where videos will be used for case study, and understanding will be promoted through discussions.
Problem Solving Trainings
Various trainings are prepared in order to implement the 5 Yahoo! Values, namely "All Yahoo! JAPAN", "Individual Strength", "Discover Propose Improve" , “Compelling Sense of Ownership“ and “Absolute Commitment”,and to improve problem solving abilities.
|Logical Thinking Training||This training enhances the ability to think logically based on hypotheses, and the ability to find problems and to formulate their solutions.|
|Presentation Training||Enhancement of presentation ability is vital in order to accurately deliver the problems found and their solutions. The techniques for preparing documents and speech are taught in this training.|
|Facilitation Training||Facilitation skills will be taught in order to prepare issues and agenda before meetings, and to derive a convincing conclusion during the meetings. By conducting meetings in an effective and efficient manner, problem solving ability will be enhanced.|

Trainings for Specialized Skills
|Technical Training||This is a training for engineers to acquire commonly used basic technologies (e.g. Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, system management), and technologies original to Yahoo! JAPAN which are the basis of providing Yahoo! JAPAN services.
Technical abilities (iOS, Android, agile), in line with overall corporate strategy, will also be enhanced.
|Tech Seminars (Introduction of latest news of the industry and technology trends)||Seminars are held to introduce the trends of the internet industry, contents of technological conferences in Japan and abroad, latest technology trends (e.g. Big Data, speech recognition), etc.|

Trainings for Managers
|Training for Newly Appointed Managers||Essentials as a manger will be taught.
Understanding of evaluation, labor management, information security, compliance, zero accident, purchase management, fixed asset management and crime tips hotline will mainly be enhanced through this training.
|Coaching Program||Coaching skills that will encourage the initiatives of the subordinates will be taught.|
|Followership Training||Management skills that will drive the followership ability of subordinates will be taught.
This is a participatory training where videos will be used for case study and understanding will be promoted through discussions.
|Value Evaluation Training||This training will deepen the understanding of "Yahoo! Values" and will teach the considerations for conducting the value evaluation in a convincing manner. This is a training for managers to evaluate their subordinates appropriately with a correct understanding of the personnel system.|
|Feedback Training||Points to note on how to deliver the feedbacks of Value Evaluation in a convincing manner will be taught.|
|Business Breakthrough||Hands-on contents, taught by first-class lecturers, can be studied anywhere and at anytime.
Regular content through which management skills can be acquired, and content that varies monthly according to themes, are delivered.
|Tech On-line||E-learning allows employees to acquire programming skills at their own time.
Through practical training, employees can learn programming at their own pace.
Strengthening English Proficiency
|Subsidy to Attend English Conversation Schools||In Yahoo! JAPAN, there are increasing opportunities for employees to shine in an international field.
A maximum of 200,000 yen per year will be subsidized in order to cover 20% of tuition fee to English conversation schools.
In order to fully support the employee's passion to "work in a global field", we will provide a backup to strengthen the English ability which is a necessity to fulfill such dreams.
|In-House TOEIC Exam||TOEIC IP exams can be taken in-house and Yahoo! JAPAN will cover the test fees.|
Yahoo! JAPAN is constantly improving the work environment so that employees can pursue their daily jobs safely and in good health. (e.g. health maintenance by industrial physicians and healthcare staff, in-house massage room, subsidies to cover the costs of various health checkups, etc.) It is complete with various social insurance policies. Also, it proactively prepares for contingencies in the form of Comprehensive Welfare Group Term Insurance and Long Term Income Compensation System, so that employees can work without anxiety.
|Defined Contribution Pension System||Defined Contribution Pension Plan (Japanese version of 401K) is a pension system which allows the employees (the plan holders) to select investment products themselves while the company bears the pension premium. The amount of pension received in the future will vary depending on the investment result. Japan is facing a rapidly aging society with birthrates declining, and sustaining the public pension plan is becoming difficult. In such environment, the role of pension systems is becoming increasingly important. Yahoo! JAPAN has introduced this system to support the employees' enriched life after retirement.|
|Employees' Saving Scheme (Zaikei)||This is a saving scheme in which a fixed amount of employees' money is deducted from salaries and bonuses and the company collectively saves the money in financial institutions. Employees can save by periodically reserving their money. There are three types of Employees' Saving Schemes: ordinary saving scheme, saving scheme for home acquisition, saving scheme for pension.|
|Cumulative Stock Investment Program (Ruitou)||This is a stock investment method in which stock investment is made from the fixed amount of money reserved every month. As part of the welfare program, Yahoo! JAPAN provides "Ruitou" so that employees can buy Yahoo! JAPAN stocks from their salary. Yahoo! JAPAN provides a 10% incentive fee for the employees' reserves. This can be used as a means of long term asset building.|
|Comprehensive Welfare Group Term Insurance||Yahoo! JAPAN subscribes to Yahoo Group Term Insurance and Softbank Group Group Term Insurance to provide for employees' contingencies. The insurance premium is totally paid by the company, and when needed, the bereaved family will receive the insurance (a total of 20 million yen).|
|Fraternal Insurance||Taking advantage of the scale of the Softbank Group, employees can prepare for hospitalization and surgery due to illness and injury and receive a high death coverage at an affordable premium. Employees as well as their family members (spouse and children) can subscribe.|
|Long Term Income Compensation System||This system compensates 60% of the salary for a maximum of 5 years, if the employee cannot come to work for more than 60 days (exemption period) due to illness or injury. If the employee is absent or take an administrative leave due to illness or injury, the Health Insurance Society will provide two thirds of the salary for 18 months as disability benefit. However, there will be no income after this period. This system provides income support even after the 18 months period.|
|Subsidies for Cost of Brain/Heart Checkup||Yahoo! JAPAN covers the cost of brain and heart checkup so that employees can make an early discovery and prevent disease related to these organs.|
|Subsidy for Cost of Breast Cancer Screening||Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Japanese women. For early detection and prevention of breast cancer, subsidies to cover the cost of breast cancer screening is provided up to a certain amount.|
|Massage Room||A wellness center is established in Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho HQ, where expert staff take care of the health and hygiene of the employees.
Also in Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho HQ, Osaka office and Nagoya Office, employees can receive a massage treatment.
|Staff Restaurant/Café||In Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho HQ, we opened our cafes (CAMP11/CAMP17) in Sep 2016, and our staff restaurant (BASE11/Base17) in Sep 2016.
They can be used for meetings and as a place to communicate with colleagues.
|Health Insurance Benefit||Yahoo! JAPAN is a member of the Kanto IT Software Health Insurance Society. Employees can receive subsidies higher than the legally required amount in various situations. (e.g. childbirth, expensive medical bills, etc.)|
|Recreational Facilities||Employees can use recreational facilities, sports facilities, restaurants, etc. affiliated to Kanto IT Software Health Insurance Society at special prices. Also Tokyo Disney Resort, USJ and tours can be enjoyed at discounted prices. Moreover, if the employees stay in one of the 8,000 or so hotels all over Japan contracted to JTB, a subsidy of 5,000 yen will be provided per night.|
|Subsidies for Internet Expense||Yahoo! JAPAN provides a subsidy for the Internet expense of either "Yahoo! BB" or "Yahoo! Wi-Fi". Employees must meet certain conditions and file the necessary applications.|
|Special Benefit Plans and Discounts for Employees||In collaboration with other companies, many welfare services unique to Yahoo! JAPAN is provided at special prices.
A wide variety of high quality special offers and discounts are offered. For example, discounts for: housing acquisition fee; costs for the usage of wedding venues, resort facilities and hot spring inns; tuition for acquiring certificates; interest rate on housing loans, etc.

Work Support Systems
|Maternity Leave||Maximum 5 working days. (Prior to the "Maternity Leave Before Childbirth")|
|Maternity Leave Before or After Childbirth||7 weeks' leave before childbirth (14 weeks in case of multiple pregnancy) and 8 weeks' leave after childbirth.|
|Childcare Leave||Until the child reaches the age of 1. Extendable until the child reaches the age of 2, if no nursery facilities can be found.|
|Shorter Working Hour System for Childcare||Standard working hours per day can be shortened to 5 hours if the child is between 1 year old and 6 grade in elementary school. (Until the end of school year after the child's 12th birthday)|
|Flextime System for Childcare||A maximum of 1 hour and 30 minutes of flextime is allowed per day if the child is between 1 year old and 6 grade in elementary school. (Until the end of school year after the child's 12th birthday)|
|Leave to Nurse Sick Children||Maximum 5 working days for 1 child of preschool age.
Maximum 10 working days for 2 children or more of preschool age.
|Childbirth Leave for Prospective Fathers||Maximum 3 working days.
Available between 1 week prior to the birth date and 1 month after giving birth.
Mom/Dad Supporter System
One can ask for advices on childcare to "Mom/Dad Supporters".
Round-table talks are held for employees who returned from childcare leave in order to answer their concerns and questions.
We provide a strong system to mentally support these employees.
Utilization Rates of the Systems
There are many employees actually using these systems.
Also 97.2% of employees on maternity/childcare leave return to their jobs with the support of their colleagues.
