Yahoo Japan Corporation (hereinafter “Yahoo! JAPAN”) has begun a collaboration on product safety information with National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (hereinafter “NITE”) from today, on the products listed in Yahoo! JAPAN Shopping, PayPay Mall, YAHUOKU! and PayPay Flea Market.
Yahoo! JAPAN considers the creation of a safe and secure marketplace for the users to be the most important issue, and has prohibited the sale and listing of inappropriate products in its terms of service and operational guidelines, as well as conducted systematic monitoring and 24/7 patrols by dedicated staff. In addition, it provides information on product recalls and voluntary recalls to users and merchants, and issues individual warnings according to the degree of danger. However, Yahoo! JAPAN believes that there are still numerous product defects and problems that have not been made public.
This initiative was realized with the idea that information received from users in Yahoo! JAPAN’s various e-commerce services about defects and problems with purchased products could be used to improve product safety one step further.
More specifically, Yahoo! JAPAN will ask for product model numbers and other information about cases that are presumed to be related to product safety out of the comments received from users, and then link the product information and the outline of the problem to NITE*. Based on this information, NITE will aim to prevent product accidents from occurring by conducting risk analysis and issuing warnings as necessary.
