Japan Institute of Design Promotion Awards for Enterprises and Workplaces with Pleasant Working Environments and High Productivity
With the Awards for Enterprises and Workplaces with Pleasant Working Environments and High Productivity, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare recognizes companies that strive for improvements in labor productivity and that have appealing work environments. Yahoo! JAPAN received the Incentive Award.
We have been commended for our initiatives to promote new workstyles, such as the Dokodemo Office (telework) and free address workspaces introduced in our new office, to increase work efficiency and expand the mindsets of our employees by exposing them to a variety of information. In addition, we have created a number of systems within the organization that inspire innovation, including our internal entrepreneurship program.
Acknowledgement by the Certified Health and Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program, Large Enterprise Category (White 500)
The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry recognizes companies of all sizes that practice particularly impressive health management with the Certified Health and Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program. Yahoo! JAPAN has been acknowledged in the large enterprise category (White 500). This program distinguishes outstanding companies that pursue health management. It awards companies that acknowledge health management of its employees from a management perspective and take strategic measures for this purpose, so that companies will create working environment that is commended by the society including employees, job applicants and financial institutions. President and Representative Director Manabu Miyasaka personally became the Chief Conditioning Officer (CCO) to build companywide health promotion systems and encourage employees to take health maintenance a step further to improve their physical condition and ward off illness. These steps have been highly regarded and have led to this acknowledgement.
Promotion of Cancer Control Partner Award, Employment Category
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare recognizes companies taking active cancer prevention steps in its Action for the Promotion of Cancer Control, and awarded Yahoo! JAPAN the Promotion of Cancer Control Partner Award in the employment category. With the Dokodemo Office system, employees can choose to work anywhere. In addition to actively utilizing this system, we have made arrangements to have personal health advising from occupational physicians and nurses available and introduced a structure to enable employees working shortened hours after returning to work following a leave of absence to gradually increase the length of their work day. Yahoo! JAPAN has been commended for these measures in actively supporting cancer patients to continue with work.
Top Hundred Telework Pioneers, Awards of Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications
Yahoo! JAPAN has been recognized as a company striving to be a pioneer in ideal teleworking with the Top Hundred Telework Pioneers, Awards of Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications. Since fiscal 2015, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has announced the Top Hundred Telework Pioneers out of the companies that have instituted telework programs with the goal to promote teleworking. From fiscal 2016, companies from among the hundred with particularly impressive pioneering efforts have been awarded the Awards of Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications. Yahoo! JAPAN has been awarded this prize for its role as a pioneer in initiatives to introduce a teleworking program for all employees, where they can work from anywhere they wish, their home or elsewhere.
Japan Business Federation Recommended Internal Newsletter, Video of the Year
Every year, Japan Business Federation recommends internal newsletters and videos that have truly contributed to management. User Voice,* a video planned and produced for our town meeting was awarded Video of the Year.

2016 Newsletter Awards, Silver Prize
Our in-house public relations article Top Interviewer* won the silver prize in the 2016 Newsletter Awards, online newsletter category. User Voice also took the silver prize in the online video category.

Selection as Competitive IT Strategy Company 2016
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange selected Yahoo! JAPAN as Competitive IT Strategy Company 2016. This honor is awarded to companies listed in the Tokyo Stock Exchange that actively use IT to inspire administrative innovation and increase productivity and earnings.
Yahoo! JAPAN has been commended for three initiatives designed to achieve innovations in quality and volume for data platforms, which serve as the foundation of big data use. Incorporating both corporate and user perspectives in our IoT initiatives has also been highly regarded.
ODNJ Excellent Awards, Organization Prize
NPO OD Network Japan recognizes organizations (individuals) that take an organizational development (OD) approach to revitalizing their business. Yahoo! JAPAN was honored with the ODNJ Excellent Award organization prize 2016.
We take an administrative approach to organizational development in pursuit of “unleashing the talents and passions of employees.” Once a week, supervisors conduct one-on-one meetings with subordinates to discuss work and career aspirations. We have been commended for these efforts in addition to establishing a division to implement organizational development.
“New Tohoku” Reconstruction Achievement Award
Fiscal 2016 marked five years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, entering a reconstruction/revitalization period. The Reconstruction Agency used that milestone to recognize individuals and organizations that contributed to initiatives to develop a “New Tohoku” in areas damaged by the quake with the New Tohoku Reconstruction and Revitalization Award. Tour de Tohoku was honored with an award in the reconstruction achievement category.
In Tour de Tohoku 2016, the fourth year of the event, a total of 3,764 cyclists cycled across six courses through Ishinomaki, Kesennuma, Onagawa, and Minamisanriku along the Sanriku Coast in Miyagi Prefecture. Over the years, the event has developed into one of the largest cycling event in Japan in terms of participants and distance.
Tour de Tohoku has been commended for its support of the long-term reconstruction of Tohoku. The goal is to hold the event for 10 continuous years and for the government and people to work together to revitalize the area through cycle tourism.
Japan Fundraising Grand Prize: Special Prize and Giving December Award: Award for Excellence
To encourage people to think about donation and fundraising, the “Giving December” Steering Committee sponsors the Giving December Award. Japan Fundraising Association sponsors the Japan Fundraising Grand Prize to award successful fundraising cases. Yahoo! Internet Fund Raising’s special feature in December 2016 won both the special prize and award for excellence in the corporate category. We were commended for our cooperation with business divisions to collect substantial donations.
